Although rare, some swelling and soreness can be
expected following root canal treatment. Taking an over-the-counter
anti-inflammatory medication before the numbness from local anesthesia wears
off is recommended. Continue for up to 7 days as needed. Take
all prescriptions as prescribed. Avoid heavy
chewing and mouth rinses for 7 days. This will minimize stress on the
bone/gum tissue and promote proper healing.
Proper restoration of root canal treated teeth is recommended in order to
minimize fracture and re-infection of the tooth. Full coverage
restorations such as crowns are generally recommended for back teeth.
Front teeth may require full coverage or composite restoration depending on
the amount of missing tooth structure and the heaviness of the bite.
It is normal to have some sensitivity and slight
swelling following root canal treatment. If you have symptoms which
seem unusual, do not hesitate to call the office at 941-575-1446. |
